Manuscripts

In our treasury there are many precious medieval manuscripts. The collection includes about 530 full volumes and 580 smaller works and fragments, in part with exquisite illustrations and paintings. Included in these numbers there are also numerous manuscripts of modern times. These are for example documents, cookbooks and autographs. All stocks are recorded in the manuscript catalogue.

Working with and reading our manuscripts

The use of a manuscript for scientific purposes is subject to the “Guidelines for working with historical documents and publications”; By the way, many of our manuscripts have been digitalized already and are accessible via the “The digital State Library of Upper Austria”. In addition you can also ask for digital reproductions of manuscripts that have not been digitalized yet. Our manuscripts have also been microfilmed in the course of the Monastic Manuscript Project of the Hill Monastic Library. The microfilm number is shown in the catalogue as MMP.
