Working with our online catalogues

The easiest way for you to find a book or any other publication is, if you search for it in our search engine PRIMO or in our online catalogue (German only). In addition to bibliographical information the catalogues also contain codes for the shelfs, open stacks or closed stacks.

Location of the books and publications

In case a medium is placed on the open shelves (entry ‘Freihand’ in the column ‘Standort’ in the item-information ‘Exemplar’), to find out about the exact location of a book you have to look for the shelf mark, a combination of numbers and letters in the column ‘Aufstellung’. We use the Dewey Deciamal Classification (DDC) for shelving. The first three digits of this shelf mark indicate which subject the respective publication comes under.

Publication ordering service

In case a medium is placed in our closed stacks (entry “Magazin” in the column “Standort” in the item-information “Exemplar”), you have to order it via the online catalogue: “Bestellen/Vormerken” in the left column in the item-information “Exemplar”. Magazines and newspapers, historical books or portfolios, which are stored in our external depots must be requested via an online order form (German only) or by phone. These stocks are usually not for loan but you are welcome to view and then work with these items in house.
